These placemats are super cute and really easy to make!
We used chalk fabric for the main piece. You can use this or another solid print for the background. We like the chalk fabric because you can write a little note!
Then you need 2 other prints for the hearts. You can do 2 red, 2 pink, 1 red & 1 pink, whatever you like! Simple prints like any ginghams, dots, toile, etc are a great option because they accent the placemat without being too busy! They add to the feel of a traditional valentine doily too. Simplicity is the key. We finished the edge with a red threaded hem, but this is not necessary at all. There are plenty of ways to decorate the edge, you can use pinking sheers, a heart shaped hole punch, or you can leave it with a raw edge since the fabric will not fray.
To create your own, you'll need 1 yard of chalk fabric, 1 yard for heart #1, and 1 yard heart #2. This will create 6 placemats in total. If you want to make more than 6 placemats, simply purchase more chalk fabric. You should have plenty left for the hearts.
You can use your creation to set the table for a romantic dinner, to line a tray for breakfast in bed, and to make a little dessert charcuterie board, the options are endless. Anyone receiving this gesture will appreciate the fact that you made these placemats for them. They'll also highlight your own personal flare.
